During consideration of the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act (S. 1692), pro-life Senator Bob Smith (R-NH) offered an amendment to require detailed reporting on transactions involving the body parts of babies killed by any method of abortion. Certain firms collect and sell such "fetal tissue" and organs to medical researchers. NRLC supported the Smith Amendment, which failed, 46-51, Vote No. 338, Oct. 21, 1999.
