Ban on abortions in military medical facilities

06/21/2002
Senate Roll Call No. 160
107th Congress, 2nd Session

Agreed to: 52-40 (see complete tally)
During consideration of the Fiscal Year 2003 defense authorization bill (S. 2514), Senators Patty Murray (D-Wa.) and Olympia Snowe (R-Me.) offered an amendment to repeal the law that prohibits performance of abortions (including privately funded abortions) at U.S. military medical facilities (except to save the life of the mother, or in cases of rape or incest). NRLC opposed the Murray-Snowe Amendment, but it passed, 52-40, Vote No. 160, June 21, 2002. Fortunately, however, the House had already rejected a similar amendment on May 9, and President Bush opposes repeal of the pro-life policy.
