About This Legislation:
H.R. 5006, the Child Tax Credit for Pregnant Moms Act, sponsored by Congressman Mark Meadows (R-NC), would extend the existing federal child tax credit to apply for the first time to an unborn child.  The bill would allow the credit to be claimed retroactively, for the period before birth, after the child is born and receives a Social Security number or other tax identification number.  National Right to Life supports H.R. 5006 and its companion bill in the U.S. Senate, which is S. 2420.
