Action Alert
Migration Campaign Action Alert: DACA
Dear JFI supporter and friend,

Pope Francis has called on us to pray and provide support for our brothers and sisters who are migrants and refugees through the historic campaign, Share the Journey. Follow his call by speaking out on behalf of young people in our communities who are facing an uncertain future because of the Administration's recent decision to end the Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

Currently, there are approximately 800,000 young people who are face the loss of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) protections, which include work authorization and protection from deportation. DACA youth and the larger DREAMer community need legislative protection from Congress to ensure that they are not deported from the only home they have ever known. This week, your members of Congress need to hear from you that you care about DREAMers. Send a message to your members of Congress now urging passage of the DREAM Act quickly so as not to uproot the lives of so many young people who've made enormous contributions to our communities and our economy.

Do not tire of courageously living the Gospel, which calls you to recognize and welcome the Lord Jesus among the smallest and most vulnerable.
- Pope Francis, Papal Message for the World Day of Migrants and Refugees, 2017

As your constituent and a supporter of the Share the Journey campaign led by Pope Francis, Id like to express my strong support for Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals (DACA) youth and urge Congress to provide a permanent legislative solution for Dreamers.

While the issue of immigration is a large and complex one, we must not forget that at the core, its about people, and I believe that every person is a child of God. Therefore, I urge our nation to find a legislative solution that includes a path to citizenship for DREAMERS. I urge you to voice support for the DREAM Act and ensure that Congress acts to pass this form of relief quickly so as not to uproot the lives of so many young people who've made enormous contributions to our communities and our economy. These children are American in every way except for their immigration status.

As Pope Francis reminded members of Congress during his visit to the United States "We need to avoid a common temptation nowadays: to discard whatever proves troublesome. Let us remember the Golden Rule: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" (Mt 7:12). To this end, we believe that deporting exemplary young people who were brought to our nation as children, and who know only the United States as their home, is not in our interests as a moral and generous people.

Thank you for hearing my concerns.
