On August 4, 1999, the House considered an appropriations bill (H.R. 2670) that contained a provision to extend a longstanding ban on funding of abortions by the federal Bureau of Prisons, except where the life of the mother is endangered or in cases of rape. Pro-abortion Rep. Diana
DeGette (D-Co.) offered an amendment to remove the pro-life provision. NRLC opposed the DeGette Amendment, which failed, 160-268, roll call no. 373.
