During consideration of the annual appropriations bill that provides funding for the Bureau of Prisons, Congresswoman Diana DeGette (D-Co.) offered an amendment to remove the provision of the bill that prohibits the funding of abortions by the Bureau of Prisons (except to save the life of the mother, or in cases of rape). NRLC opposed the amendment, which failed, 169-253, Roll Call No. 235, July 17, 2001.
