During consideration of the Fiscal Year 2004 defense authorization bill (S. 1050), Senators Patty Murray (D-Wa.) and Olympia Snowe (R-Me.) offered an amendment to repeal the law that prohibits performance of abortions (including privately funded abortions) at U.S. military medical facilities (except to save the life of the mother, or in cases of rape or incest). NRLC opposed the Murray-Snowe Amendment, and the amendment failed, 48 to 51, Roll Call No. 192, May 22, 2003.
