Ban on abortions in military medical facilities

Senate Roll Call No. 148
106th Congress, 1st Session

Agreed to: 51-49 (see complete tally)
During consideration of the defense authorization bill for Fiscal Year 2000 (S. 1059), Senators Patty Murray (D-Wa.) and Olympia Snowe (R-Me.) offered an amendment to repeal the law that prohibits performance of abortions (including privately funded abortions) in U.S. military medical facilities (except to save the life of the mother, or in cases of rape or incest). NRLC supported a motion to table (kill) the Murray-Snowe Amendment, and this pro-life motion passed 51 yeas to 49 nays, Vote No. 148, May 26, 1999. Therefore, the pro-life ban was preserved.
