Help IDSA Enact the Strategies to Address Antimicrobial Resistance (STAAR) Act

Infectious diseases physicians and their patients are losing the battle against resistant bacterial infections. Many policymakers, including Members of Congress, are not aware of the brewing crisis and its implications for patient care, public health, and national security. IDSA strongly supports the comprehensive approach found in the Strategies to Address Antimicrobial Resistance (STAAR) Act, introduced recently by Representatives Jim Matheson (D-UT) and Michael Ferguson (R-NJ) and by Senators Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and Orrin Hatch (R-UT). The STAAR Act will strengthen antimicrobial resistance surveillance, prevention and control, education, and coordination efforts as well as elevate the issue to make it a priority within the Department of Health and Human Services.
