I am writing to ask you to support and protect the nearly 800,000 young people covered under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) program. With the Trump Administrationís announcement on September 5 to end the DACA program in six months, Congress must act quickly to protect these Dreamers. One such way is passing bipartisan legislation known as the BRIDGE Act (S.128/H.R.496), which would extend the safety and security of DACA to undocumented students who, as youngsters, were brought to the U.S. by their parents, and are now at colleges or universities, in the workforce, or in the military, building a future for themselves and strengthening our communities.

The BRIDGE Act is sponsored in the Senate by Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Richard Durbin (D). Its original cosponsors include Senators Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Jeff Flake (R-AZ), Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Kamala Harris (D-CA). The bill lead sponsors in the House are Rep. Mike Coffman (R-CO) and Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL). Original cosponsors of the House bill include Jeff Denham (R-CA), Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-CA), Carlos L. Curbelo (R-FL), Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), and Judy Chu (D-CA). Adding your name to the co-sponsors would be a solid demonstration of support for this bipartisan effort.

The BRIDGE Act would ensure that children of undocumented immigrants, who were brought to this country through no choice of their own, became ďAmerican kidsĒ attending local schools and being a part of our local community and broader family, could continue to attend college, become successes in their own right and help shape American success in the coming years.

In light of the Trump Administrationís six-month countdown to end the DACA program, I would like to urge you to move quickly to support an amendment that would make permanent or extend the applicability of DACA protections until comprehensive immigration reform is enacted.

The broad list of sponsors shows that this proposed solution is not partisan nor ideological; Republicans and Democrats, conservatives, moderates and progressives have come together to address this issue.

I hope I can count on you to support the BRIDGE Act and the important amendment that is needed.
