Support the Bi-Partisan BRIDGE ACT

I am writing to you to ask you to support and consider co-sponsoring H.R.496/S.128, bipartisan legislation known as the BRIDGE Act that would extend the safety and security of DACA to undocumented students who, as youngsters, were brought to the United States by their parents, and are now at colleges or universities building a future for themselves and strengthening our communities.

The BRIDGE Act is sponsored in the House by Rep. Mike Coffman (R-CO) and Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL). Original cosponsors of the House bill include Representatives Jeff Denham (R-CA), Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-CA), Carlos L. Curbelo (R-FL), Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) and Judy Chu (D-CA). The bill lead sponsors in the Senate are Senators Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Richard Durbin (D). Its original cosponsors include Senators Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Jeff Flake (R-AZ), Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Kamala Harris (D-CA). Adding your name to the co-sponsors would be a solid demonstration of support for this bipartisan effort.

The BRIDGE Act would ensure that children of undocumented immigrants, who were brought to this country with no choice of their own, became “American kids” attending local schools and being a part of our local community and broader family, could continue to attend college, become successes in their own right and help shape American success in the coming years.

The broad list of sponsors and cosponsors of this bill show that this proposed solution is not partisan nor ideological; Republicans and Democrats, conservatives, moderates and progressives have come together to address this issue.

I hope I can count on you to support the BRIDGE Act and I hope you will consider signing on as a cosponsor of this important legislation.
