TELL YOUR SENATORS: Don't Cut Essential Health Services for People with Disabilities
The health care debate now moves to the U.S. Senate with the U.S. House passage of its American Health Care Act (AHCA). Tell your Senators to reject cuts to essential health services for individuals with disabilities.

The health care debate now moves to the U.S. Senate with the U.S. House passage of its American Health Care Act (AHCA). The AHCA was bad for people with disabilities because it:

  • Eliminated $12 billion in attendant care and other supports that help individuals with disabilities live independently (Sec. 111);
  • Capped the amount of federal funds available for Medicaid services and community supports for Medicaid recipients, including individuals with disabilities (Sec. 121); and
  • Weakened national protection around pre-existing conditions and essential health benefits that help individuals with disabilities (Sec. 136).

Individuals with disabilities can’t afford to lose access to these vital Medicaid-funded services and long-term supports. We need your help to stop these health care cuts before they reach the President's desk.

As you consider health care legislation, please reject cuts to essential health services for individuals with disabilities.

The U.S. House-passed American Health Care Act (AHCA) is bad for people with disabilities. The legislation would greatly reduce Medicaid resources, including direct services that individuals with disabilities rely on to live, learn and work in their communities.

I am especially concerned by the AHCA provisions that would cap federal funding for Medicaid services (Sec. 121), eliminate attendant care and other disability supports (Sec. 111), and weaken national protection and essential health benefits that help individuals with disabilities and others with pre-existing conditions (Sec. 136).

Losing access to Medicaid services and community supports would be devastating to individuals with disabilities. Please ensure that the U.S. Senate rejects proposals that will limit access to and protections for people with disabilities.

Thank you for your consideration.
