What has a good chance of being RATIFIED during the upcoming lame duck Congress, yet poses a tremendous threat to U.S. national security? The New START treaty!

The New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, START, was signed by President Obama and the Russian president last April. It was then approved by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on September 16 by a vote of 14-4.

The New START treaty requires approval by 67 Senators for ratification and is sure to be brought up for a vote during the lame duck session in November.

All committee Democrats voted for ratification, joined by Republican Senators Richard Lugar (R-IN), Bob Corker (R-TN), Johnny Isakson (R-GA), John Barrasso (R-WY) and Roger Wicker (R-MS).

Fierce opponents of the treaty’s ratification include Senators Jim DeMint (R-SC), James Inhofe (R-OK), Jon Kyl (R-AZ) and James Risch (R-ID).
