Action Alert
Take Action Call the Senate Armed Services Committee TODAY!
*You are receiving this VERY IMPORTANT action alert because one of your Senators sits on the Senate Armed Services Committee.*
Please call your Senator on the Senate Armed Services Committee and tell him to uphold current law while voting on the FY2011 National Defense Authorization bill (H.R. 5136) Tomorrow, May 27th!  Current law holds that LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) persons are ineligible for military service.  This law is often confused with President Clinton's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy.  Let your Senator know that you support the law and that you want him to uphold it in committee!
Tell your Senator to vote according to the wishes of Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and the Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Admiral Mike Mullen by opposing the advancement of any legislation that "seeks to change current military policy" before the Pentagon's review on the issue is completed later this year.  Both Gates and Mullen have stated that any congressional action to repeal or change the 1993 law before the review is completed will send a "damaging message to our men and women in uniform that their views, concerns, insights, and perspectives do not matter."
In the midst of two wars, now is not the time to change longstanding, effective military policy!
