Action Alert
Take Action Tell Reps. Donnelly (D-IN-2nd) and Ellsworth (D-IN-8th) to stand strong on the abortion issue!
March 9, 2010
*This is a state-specific action alert for Indiana residents.*
If you do not reside in Reps. Donnelly's or Ellsworth's districts, please forward this alert to friends and family who do live in or around those areas of the state.
Rep. Bart Stupak (D-MI-1st) has made it this far in the health care abortion fight with his group of 12 or so pro-life Democrats plus Republican Congressman Cao-who voted for the health care bill the first time around-holding firm by vowing to vote NO on the Senate-passed health care bill (H.R. 3590) because it allows for public funding of abortion.  But, this group of Congressmen is coming under increased pressure from the White House to give in and "resolve" its concerns with the abortion language.  Rep. Kildee (D-MI) has reportedly caved in to the arm-twisting from the White House.
  • As we saw while the Senate bill was being considered, "pro-life" Democrat Ben Nelson (D-NE) caved in at the end by giving up his fight for the unborn, accepting the liberals' pro-abortion language, and casting his vote in favor of the bill. Sen. Ben Nelson (D-NE) was the deciding vote on the Senate bill.
  • Rep. Stupak and his coalition of pro-life Democrats are very likely among the deciding votes that will determine whether government-run health care legislation reaches President Obama's desk for a signature.
  • If Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) didn't need these pro-life Democrats' votes to pass the bill, they wouldn't be coming under such intense pressure to compromise. Even House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) said today that the abortion language has "got to be resolved."
  • The pro-abortion feminists in Congress, of course, will not allow a nationalized health care system to employ anything less than explicit abortion coverage and funding.
  • It is crucial that this coalition of pro-life Democrats stays committed and united against both the Senate bill and any White House manipulations or promises to "fix" certain aspects of the bill at a later time by reconciliation.
We need YOU to let Reps. Donnelly and Ellsworth know that pro-life Americans all over the nation are behind him!  Please do what you can to contact Reps. Donnelly's and Ellsworth 's district and Capitol Hill offices and urge him them:
  • Be American heros.
  • Stand their ground and resist White House attempts to manipulate pro-life Members of Congress and make false promises about the health care abortion language.
  • Let them know they wouldn't be alone in voting NO-they will be joined by many pro-life Republicans and Democrats who are opposed to the bill for their own reasons.
  • Vote NO on the Senate health care bill.
