Action Alert
Take Action Stop Radical Anti-Life Spending Legislation
Tell your Representatives to Reject Spending Proposal!
Thanks to all who took action on the House version of the so-called “Stimulus” package! Because of the massive outcry from concerned citizens like you, the family planning portion was stripped from the bill before it came to the floor for a vote!

H.R. 1 did pass the House by a vote of 244-188, and the Senate is currently working out the details of its version of an economic stimulus package. We will keep you posted as details of the Senate version emerge.

Please don’t forget to thank your Representatives who took a stand on behalf of the American taxpayers and voted NO on H.R. 1

January 26, 2009

The House is scheduled to vote on H.R. 1, "The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009," sponsored by Rep. David Obey (D-WI) later this week.  The legislation includes an $825 billion spending package.  With interest, this package will cost taxpayers $1.1 trillion between 2009 and 2019.  Although Democrats are marketing the bill as an economic stimulus package, the legislation contains a tremendous amount of pork (click here to see a list of examples), few measures to stimulate the economy, and exorbitant stimulants for radical left wing causes, including:
  • Hundreds of millions of dollars for family planning, including abortion providers.
  • Billions of dollars for left-wing groups like the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), which has been accused of voter fraud, is reportedly under federal investigation; and played a key role in the housing meltdown.
  • 1.1 billion dollars for "Comparative Effectiveness Research," a research project that will form the cornerstone of nationalized health care
  • Massive education spending increases.
According to Congressman Tom Price, Chair of the Republican Study Committee, a conservative Congressional working group that has written alternative legislation designed to stimulate the economy through tax and spending cuts, not increases, "Congressional Democrats are seeking to use an economic crisis to advance their goal of a massive federal health care bureaucracy."

Liberals are exploiting this economic crisis to advance the most radical social and fiscal agenda America has ever known, and in an interview Sunday, January 25, 2009, with ABC's George Stephanopolous, Nancy Pelosi made clear just how dangerous government controlled health care truly is to those who value life, when she admitted that states cannot afford all the entitlements they have promised, and "unapologetically" defended the subsidies for "family planning services," in the economic stimulus package as necessary to reduce the number of children for whom the state will have to provide services:

". . . family planning services reduce cost.  They reduce cost,'" said Pelosi.  "The states are in terrible fiscal budget crises now and part of what we do for children's health, education and some of those elements are to help the states meet their financial needs. . . the contraception, will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government."

We must stop this extravagantly irresponsible, radical, anti-life spending legislation.  Call your Congressional Representatives, and urge them to reject the massive proposal, and instead to support tax and spending cuts.

Also, new Congressional Members, Parker Griffith (D-AL) and Kathy Dahlkemper (D-PA)  both ran on a pro-life platform.  Be sure to hold these members accountable to their campaign promises.
