Recently the Senate Judiciary Committee began hearings on S.1945, a transparent attempt to seize federal power over elections. It would reverse the insightful, important U.S. Supreme Court’s Shelby County v. Holder decision, which freed jurisdictions from archaic standards of racial equality that largely no longer apply.
As a member of the Center for Moral Clarity, a non-partisan Christian grassroots advocacy organization, I greatly value government policies that foster racial equality. The federal government does itself no favors by asserting power where previous laws have worked, creating situations where federal intrusion is no longer needed.
It’s tempting to appear to be a champion of racial equality by supporting this bill, but it’s ultimately more useful to be a champion of legislation that is effective. Please use reason instead of passion and use your influence to let this bill die a deserved death in this session.
Thank you for considering my opinion.
