The time is now to advocate for Congress to finally close the gaping hole in federal law that does not allow youth serving organizations in every state access to federal criminal background checks on employees and volunteers. The Child Protection Improvements Act would ensure this access. (Read details at: http://www.acacamps.org/news-publications/news/child-prot....)
Previously, this bill passed the House of Representatives by an overwhelming bipartisan margin of 412-4. Due to the then lame duck session of Congress, the bill never made it to the floor of the Senate.
The bill has been reintroduced in the Senate (S.2332) by Senators Charles Schumer (NY) and Orrin Hatch (UT); and in the House (HR 4073) by Representatives Adam Schiff (CA-28) and Mike Bishop (MI-8).
We are calling to action all those who care about protecting children! Please contact your legislators in both the House and the Senate and ask them for their support of the bills. If you need more background information about the bills (including key messages, you can find details here: http://www.acacamps.org/news-publications/news/child-prot....)
