US Sign the White House Petition: End direct-to-consumer drug advertising
And end drug company control of the media

Please sign a petition on the We the People, the official petition site for the White House, calling for the end of direct-to-consumer drug advertising. If the petition receives 100,000 signatures in 30 days the White House promises an “official update.” More to the point, we are more than two years into the Trump administration and we have yet to see any reform of drug or vaccine policy. It is far past time for the President to take action on these issues.

Drug advertising is controlled primarily by regulations created by federal agencies, consequently, the President can take action on this issue without the need for action by Congress.

The drug industry is now both the leading industry giving money to political campaigns, and the leading buyer of advertising in the US, which could account for the almost total absence of any coverage in the corporate media critical of drug companies and their products.

Drug companies now spend more on marketing and advertising that they do on research and the cost for all of that comes directly out of our pockets.

New Zealand and the US are the only countries in the world that allow drug companies to advertise directly to consumers. America’s 5% of the global population consumes 50% of the drugs produced in the world.  Medical errors, many or which involve prescription drugs, are now the third leading cause of death in the US.

Calling for a ban of direct-to-consumer drug advertising is hardly an idea limited to crazy anti-vaxxers, the American Medical Association, the largest physicians' organization in the US supports the idea as well.
