Good news. New York State Senator Monica Martinez (D-Brentwood) introduced a bill yesterday (S3424) that would end New York public schools' power to deny religious exemptions from vaccine mandates.
This follows closely on the heels of Sen. Brad Hoylman (D-Westside of Manhattan) reintroducing his bill to repeal religious exemptions, which is now Senate Bill S2994.
Sen. Martinez’s bill is almost identical to Senate Bill S6141d, the religious exemption protection bill we were working hard to pass last year.
So we have two bills in the New York Senate taking diametrically opposed positions on religious exemptions. Both Hoylman and Martinez are Democrats who now control the New Yor Senate. This division in the majority party will help us preserve our rights.
We support Sen. Monica Martinez’s S3424.
We oppose Sen Brad Hoylman’s S2994.

Please call Sen. Martinez’s offices and politely thank her for her courageous move.
