We are joining with the Michael Carey of the Jonathan Carey Foundation in encouraging New York media to investigate the recently uncovered practice of housing released sex-offenders with people with developmental disabilities in group homes and other residential facilities. This is occurring at the same that the Justice Center, the state agency responsible for investigating crimes against the disabled, was ruled unconstitutional and we have no functioning way to investigate crimes against the disabled in residential facilities in New York. Gov. Cuomo has yet to propose any solution to provide protection to the disabled.
Carey had this to say about the Autism Action Network, "The Autism Action Network is a phenomenal and tireless advocate for all people with autism and any type of disability. They have stood with me and the Jonathan Carey Foundation for many years as we have together done everything within our power to save lives, finally provide 911 medical and police services for our most vulnerable, and to ensure that the wide-scale violation of the civil rights of your loved ones is ended. Children and adults with autism and any disability are equally valuable members in society and must finally be provided their promised Constitutional rights to 'equal protection of laws."
Before you take action, if you value the news, information and advocacy brought to you by the Autism Action Network please make it possible for us to continue by supporting our one fundraiser of the year we do in conjunction with Autism Community Walk and Resource Fair 2018 on October 20 in Belmont Lake State Park in Babylon, NY (Exit 38 on the Southern State) at the link below. Donors of $100 or more will recieve a copy of of either J.B. Handley's How to End the Autism Epidmic or The HPV Vaccine on Trial by Holland, Rosenberg and Iorio. Donors of $200 or more will receive both books.
This is the message to the media outlets in your area:
The Cuomo administration must immediately stop moving convicted sex offenders from prisons into group homes with people with disabilities. This is illegal and in direct violation of NYS Penal law 260.25 which is a Class E felony and multiple federal laws. Placing known sexual predators into group homes to live with our most vulnerable is knowingly doing something likely to be injurious to incompetent individuals that cannot care for or defend themselves. All sex offenders already placed in group homes must be swiftly moved into other facilities separate from individuals with developmental disabilities. There are specific laws regarding sex offenders not being near school grounds because of the extreme danger, this is no different. The Adirondack Daily Enterprise has also further exposed illegal acts, including the placement of convicted sex offenders across the street from an elementary school. Placing convicted sex offenders to live with people with disabilities is a recipe for sexual assaults and rapes.
