You are invited to the Autism Community Walk and Resource Fair 2018 at beautiful Belmont Lake State Park (Exit 38 on the Southern State Parkway) Babylon, NY on Saturday, October 20. Registration starts at 9 am, walk starts at 11 am, rain or shine. Come walk with our 2018 Grand Marshal and leading autism advocate Katie Wright. Your support for the first two Autism Community Walks made them both great successes, and we hope we can repeat the success again this year, with your continued support we are confident we can.
The Autism Community Walk supports advocacy, research and outreach for families and individuals affected by autism and developmental disabilities, and supports organizations that support our community. More than 73% of all the funds raised so far have gone directly to the nonprofit organizations that participate in the Autism Community Walk.
A few highlights from 2018 in New York:
- We met with all 213 of the 213 legislative offices in Albany,
- Reversing seven years of cuts, we saw the first increase in the budget for the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities,
- After years of effort, in an especially difficult year in Albany, legislation passed that will determine the cost of autism, which is an essential first step to providing needed resources,
- We continued to help open new pathways to high school graduation for students with developmental disabilities.
Let's keep this positive momentum going.
